Recent happenings in our life:
- Our bishopric changed in our ward. After serving as a counselor for 4 years my husband is now............................still serving in the bishopric. He is still 1st counselor. I can't tell you how many people came up to me on Sunday and said, "I thought for sure your husband was going to be the next bishop." I then look at them like "are you insane?!?" Our bishop, for the first time in the 6 years (this is our 4th bishop in 6 years) we have lived here, is actually over age 35 (the reason for the above mentioned comments about my husband). We live in a military ward and our membership consists mostly of young families. There are relatively few 'older' families and members in our ward, let alone those that stay here for an extended period of time. Our new bishop is one of the oldies and he is here for good. He moved into the ward about a year ago so that is why he wasn't snagged as bishop before. He is actually a lot older than 35. He is a grandpa even. That is old for our ward. Our last bishop was the same age as me. That would explain why our last bishop was the coolest bishop ever!
- I mentioned last month that I sprained my ankle when I gracefully tripped down the stairs. Well it turns out I am a great big baby because it still hurts. I went to see one of those
drive-thru doctorsurgent care doctors last week and he told me sprains take forever to heal and come back in two weeks if it didn't feel better. Not what I wanted to hear. I am not a patient person. I have never had an injury that required this much time to get better. I finally went back to the gym yesterday after not going for a month. Let's just say that during the holidays was not a good time for me to sprain my ankle and stop going to the gym. I swear I have gained 10 pounds. I am afraid to get on the scale to confirm my suspicions. - Sunday was my birthday. I am not ashamed to admit how old I am. I turned.....28 this year. That is my story and I'm sticking to it. Oh, alright, if you insist on the truth. I turned 34 this year. But if anyone asks, tell them I'm 28.
- For my birthday my husband let me pick one of three things. Last year I got nothing. I reminded him of that fact about a week before my birthday and he came through for me this year. He took me to Best Buy and told me I could pick out an i-pod, a video camera, or one of those all-in-one printer/scanner/copier/dishwasher/vacuum cleaner do-dads. I really wanted one of each, but that wasn't an option. I opted for the latter (though I am considering taking it back because it does neither dishes nor vacuuming).
- I really liked the i-pod. It would be nice to have one for when I go to the gym. So now I came up with a
schemeidea to earn one. First off, I think I might be going a wee bit crazy, but hey, in the end I might end up with an i-pod. I asked my husband if I were to give up chocolate for a certain amount of time if he would reward me with an i-pod for my tremendous sacrifice. He thought this was a great idea and said he would buy me an i-pod if I could go 3 months without chocolate. I asked him if I could start after I finished eating all the chocolate in the house that is left over from Christmas. He thought I was kidding. I'll keep you posted with my chocolate challenge results. Wish me luck!

15 people have something to say:
First of all let me just say that this was not a boring post! Secondly (is that a word?)...Happy Birthday you young 28 thing you! :) I'm glad you got something this year. What a choice! I'd have had a difficult time deciding too (what? it doesn't do the dishes....take the thing back!) Finally, I end with all the best thoughts and wishes for a successful chocolate-free three months! May you go forth, survive, and bee bop with your new ipod all the way to the gym! :)
So nice to see you back, and I have to agree with deanne boring is not a word I would use to describe your post. So much news!!!
Regarding your new bishop--so he's old, like me, eh?
Happy Belated Birthday. Hope you had a good one.
What a great idea t earn an iPod. I know you can do it with giving up the chocolate!!!
An ipod for chocolate? Hmm.. I might even be tempted to give it up for that. What a sweetie husband you have.
I won't tell anyone how old you are. ;o)
Fun post! Your new bishop sounds great. Happy Happy Birthday - I'm glad this year is better than last!
No chocolate for 3 months - that's going to be tough, but I think the ipod is worth it. I love mine. actually Nathan took mine to Iraq with him, but he says I can buy a new one for our anniversary (in silver so he can have it when he gets back.) good luck!
Happy Birthday! I hope it was super fun...of course it was, score!
Sprains do take forever to heal :( I sprained my ankle months ago, it took weeks and then I still feel it once in a while, not the hurt, but it bothers.
Take care :)
Happy Birthday!
Good way to earn an iPod. We have one and have it hooked up on a little speaker system thing so I mostly use it to play kids' songs during the day and soothing music when I make dinner. Handy dandy! But I guess it would be best if I actually used it while working out (better try working out sometime).
I hope your ankle feels better soon!
Happy Birthday Amanda!
FYI: You can buy refurbished ipods on the apple website. They come with a warranty and everything but cost a lot less.
Sorry about the sprained ankle. I hope it heals fast. My mom had one that took 1 1/2 years to heal. Hope that doesn't happen to you:)
For a minute there I thought I had bought the wrong brand of PCS! Cause mine doesn't do dishes or vacuum either. So glad to find I was not alone. Maybe we should go to a support group. :P
My hub was called into the bishopric in our small ward, now that we are in a big ward he goes to class with the Grandpas! He-he
An i-pod for no Chocolate?? hmmm...it might be worth it. I got one for Christmas and I'm LOVIN' it.
Hope your ankle is feeling better!
Happy Birthday! Wow, four bishops in six years! That's amazing. When I was 17 our Stake created a new ward, which I belonged to. The first two bishops of this new ward both died while serving as bishop. Its very sad, I know. But I am bad, I couldn't help but joke about how scary it would be to be called as the bishop of this ward!
Good luck on your chocolate challenge! You're a good lady. You do NEED that ipod for the gym. I have been dieting for seven months but I still manage to sneak in a little chocolate and/or ice cream every day - that probably explains my slow progress. :)
ah amanda, you made me giggle out loud with your chocolate goal. you are too cute.
happy birthday sweetie. all 34 of you. i am 39 and that's my story and i am sticking to it.
