I was just going through my pictures and realized that I never posted any pictures from my trip to Utah. I did not have the ability to do that while in Utah and I'm not sure why I didn't once I got home. So here is a little trip down memory lane.

On our way to Utah we stopped at
Independence Rock. I would only let the kids climb so high. I didn't want to have to climb up there and rescue them when they decided they couldn't get back down. The
one time I climbed it I was with Scott and it was scary coming down. Of course I was 6 weeks pregnant and wanted to throw up, so that didn't help either.

The kids enjoyed playing in the rain after we realized we were going to be
stuck at Independence Rock for 3 hours waiting for the tow truck.

Our Suburban being towed to Rawlins.

Papa and the grandkids making scones. Actually it is fried bread, but my Dad always called them scones. Also, my Dad was never that patient with us when we were kids. Why is that with grandparents? Maybe it was because he knew he wasn't going to be the one to clean it up later. I missed the picture with Matthew (the one in front of the flour canister) with his arm in the flour clear up to his elbow.

The hammock was a real hit with the kids. They played a game where they tried to rock it until they could knock everyone off.
Utmommy and
Tori playing dress up at the
Utah blogfest! They were hawt!

Utmommy, Me, Tori, and
Suzanne - giving it our best for the camera. Sadly, I was not able to get a picture of all of the other attendees:
Mel,
Kayelyn,
Emily, Lisa, and
Gina. I'll have to go steal one of their pictures and keep it for my own. :)

Suzanne and her two boys, "J" and "D". We were able to spend an afternoon at their house swimming. How fun it was to see her again and meet her kids!

Seeing my 95 year-old grandfather is always a treat. Though he is quite deaf, meaning you have to nearly yell to speak to him, he is quite witty and fun. In the background you can see pictures of my grandmother and Betsy, his second wife, who
died last year. It is sad to see him so lonely now. He always said that he wanted to live to be 100, but I am not sure he feels that way anymore.
Before we left we took one more picture of my kids with my sister Emily's kids. From left to right: Kimberly, Allison, Kaylynn, Jordan, Matthew, Kayla and Megan.
We had a great trip to Utah. Already it feels like it has been ages since we left. I was lucky that I was able to make it to Utah 3 times in the last year.
14 people have something to say:
Grandpas are more tolerant b/c they've gone through male menopause and have had a testosterone drop.
I'm serious.
Great pics and a great post. Don't you just LOVE having car trouble on vacation?!? (I especially love when we have trouble in the U.S. and then have to pay duty on the repairs when we cross the border)
I love scones--the same kind you're talking about--fried bread. Regarding grandparents--I think we've just seen so much and we know it will be o.k. I know I have more patience, at times, with Kyle than I did with some of the older ones. I hope your grandpa lives as long as he wants to.
Looks like you had a great trip.
Looks like you had a great time. Well, minus the car trouble, of course.
Grandpas are my favorite people in the whole wide world.
Independence Rock looks like fun! So does your trip.
Oh and too cool that you have a sister named Emily! I didn't know that when I named my children. :)
Hmmm...scones. And what a great trip you had. Well, except for the tow!
Great pics Amanda!!
I hadn't seen the one with us all holding our legs. Too funny!
And it is so true- my parents are much cooler, more patient grandparents than they ever were as parents!!
elizabeth: Is that the same thing as a mid-life crisis because my Dad definitely went through that. lol
yvonne: Car trouble on vacation is bad, especially when your husband is not with you! I can't wait until the patience/wisdom kicks in. :D
nikko: We had a great time! :)
lisa: Grandpa's do rock! I even like my Dad more now that he is a grandpa. ;) Emily and Amanda are great names. I always wanted to name one of my daughters Emily, but there are like 3 already in my family.
amber: Yes, mmmmmm, scones. I think we might be having them this weekend!
tori: Nothing like using pictures from 2 months ago for a post. ;)
ARR! What a great trip for ye, landlubber! An' aye, why be't that a car always done dies on a trip? I remembers bein' stuck fer half a day in an orange grove once on accoun' o' th' starter sank t'Davy Jones' locker. What gl'rious fun!

What do you call pirate Amanda?
A Superstarrrrrrr!
We call fried bread scones, too. The first (and only) time I had a real scone I was totally disappointed.
Love the photo of the kids on Independence Rock. We never stopped there on any of our trips to UT. next time!
My sister calls them scones too.
Must be a Utah thing.
