Friday Randomness

Friday feast didn't entice my blog buds today, so instead I am doing a bit of this and that.

* Recently overheard at our dinner table.
Mom: Megan you really need to finish your dinner.
Megan: I don't want to.
Mom: Megan, you can't just eat vegetables and be done with dinner, you need to eat something else too.
I then looked at my husband and said, "I can't believe I just said that!"
Having a garden and fresh vegetables has it's advantages. My kids love veggies, they often ask for seconds of vegetables before anything else.

* Yesterday I had an experience which will not soon be forgotten. Though I loathe walmart I usually do most of my shopping there because I can't afford not to. Another local store (not Walmart) had some really good sales this week so I decided to take advantage of it. While searching for one of the sale items a clerk saw me looking and actually asked me if I needed help instead of me having to hunt down someone to ask. Then I was completely speechless when the very friendly cashier asked me if I wanted paper or plastic. You mean I get a choice? This was after she handed me a paper towel, without my asking, after she noticed I was gagging because the roast that I was taking out of my cart was leaking all over my hands. Then I actually had a bagger bag my groceries, and he was friendly too! They even offered me curbside pickup. I left the store smiling and feeling like the most important customer they had had the pleasure of serving all day! Usually when I leave walmart I am exhausted, irritated and annoyed. I wish that pinching pennies wasn't an issue and that I could afford to shop at this other store all the time.

* I once heard that a long time ago, native american women would leave their family and their tribe to go to a special place, sometimes referred to as a moon lodge, when it was that time of the month. On Sunday I was wishing that moon lodges still existed and that I could go to my happy place for the next 7 days. I totally see why these women ran away left during that time of the month. That way they were less likely to exhibit not so nice PMS symptoms and possibly injure someone do something they might regret. On Sunday I wanted to turn around and tell the nice lady who sits behind me every Sunday and sings very loudly and off key to stuff a sock in it. In nursery my patience was paper thin, especially when my co-teacher didn't show up again. Luckily the 12 kids that showed up for our nursery class were relatively calm for toddlers and I had someone nice enough to help me out.

* Jim update: I've been trying to go every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to the gym and doing Pilates at home on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This week I skipped Monday because of that not so friendly visitor I mentioned earlier. I did Pilates on Tuesday and made it to the gym Wednesday and again today. It feels good to be there, but it is a struggle getting myself there some days. Hopefully it will pay off. I was really starting to get somewhere before summer started, luckily I didn't gain anything during the summer.

That's it for now. Have a great weekend everyone!

"You can just eat veggies and nothing else"! Funny!

Wouldn't it be nice to have a vacation once a month....Ahhh that would be worth the rest of it, I think.

Way to go on your exercise plan. I didn't exercise today and I took a nap! I'm so lazy...

Oh and did you check the sign to make sure you were at Walmart? I've NEVER heard of such behavior there!

Oops--"can't-can't each veggies"....

Lisa: I didn't mention that I took a nap today too for about 20 minutes. The store I went to was not walmart, it was albertsons, I didn't make that very clear, sorry. :D

I love randomness!! and I wish my kids ate veggies better. Lucky.

My kids can eat just veggies, too. I do encourage them to eat something else as well.

Yay for naps. I wish I had been taking one.

I love posts like this. I love vegetables (not as much as chocolate, but I do love them).

Regarding going to the "happy place"--being old does have its advantages ; )

Great job on visiting jim. It will pay off.

It would seem that we have similar timing on our "visitors." Sunday was a rough one for me too - I was dreaming of running away for the week too! haha!

Have you ever read the Red Tent? Same principle as the moon lodge. Lovely book.

Yes, the Red Tent is a fun read. Amanda, you would like it. I must say, that is one of the perks of being pregnant -- no monthly visitors to deal with.

I have the same thoughts as you do on the Albertsons vs Walmart thing. The last time I was at A's I had two people helping me unload my cart onto the conveyer belt, and an older gentleman unload the groceries into my car. Ah! Sometimes it it worth the splurge!

hi amanda:
i so enjoyed your post on periods this day! you cracked me up with your lined out words, too. you are good at that! you also made me snicker when you were tempted to tell your sister behind you in church what to do w/her singing. good for you that you restrained yourself.

i so enjoy your blog and your emails. thanks also for sending me the note to go look at tori's wilderness post.

you so rock friend,
kathleen :)

ps. is there a bloggy "you so rock" award? i would bestow it upon you in a heartbeat :)

Love the veggies comment. Wanna bring 'em over to sample our garden? We have a year's supply of that blasted summer squash....

I loved reading your walmart randomness. I WILL NOT SHOP AT walmart EVER. There is no deal good enough to make me go there. Every 3 or 4 months I might get this random urge to go... and if I do, I leave exhausted, irritated and annoyed. Albertson's is MY store. I'm a faithful customer. My sanity and pleasant shopping experience is worth every cent! :)

I have the same experience at our local grocer....and I love paper...not plastic. I despise the little spinning thing at Walmart.....and I KNOW they leave my stuff in it all the time....I continue the spin.....even with the glares from the under-paid cashier....nice randomness....I enjoyed.

Yum, veggies.

I like WM, but it's nice to shop at other places too.
Sounds like you found a hidden treasure of a store! I would dedicate part of my budget to support good customer service!

I actually enjoy shopping at Walmart. I accidently mentioned that at a PTA meeting and I got a lot of mean looks and a few "buying cheap clothes at walmart is a waste when you can get better quality for a little more" kind of comments. I still get a little embarrassed when I see one mom's from that meeting at school.

BUT finding a store with service with a smile is worth going back to!

My workout schedule is the same as yours - run Mon, Wed, Fri, and Sat. Yoga Tues Thurs at home. It's too easy for me to forget my tues/thurs workout, though.

Our grocery store never gives us the option of paper or plastic.
Now I wonder...
Do they have paper anymore?
Where are they hiding it?
It's much more fun to make a vest outta paper, than plastic. What if you needed to hide your face?
You can see right through a plastic bag.
That doesn't do a bit of good.

"stuff a sock in it!" Hahahaha! Amanda, you're cracking me up today! Hey, did you see any moon lodges while you lived here in Utah? I definitely need one this week! Hmph...

A moon lodge is a wonderful idea. I bet it was full of things like chocolate, warm blanketed corners for naps, and tvs that had Pride & Prejudice running non-stop. Ahhh. (And no kids allowed, for their own safety.)

AND WALMART IS OF THE DEVIL. I know exactly what you mean. I had to go there today. I love when you ask one of the employees if they know where something is. They are more likely to spit on you than help you. Boo.

i love it how wynne said the lodge would be playing "pride and prejudice" nonstop! funny.
