What a weekend we had around here. I know today is Wednesday, but it feels like our weekend just ended yesterday.
On Friday my Dad flew in from Denver to spend the weekend with us. He flew up here especially to see Jordan who was playing his cello in a citywide orchestra concert Saturday night.
The concert was very impressive! They sounded great and looked great. Jordan had a wonderful time and it was such a great experience for him.
The concert was the highlight of our Saturday evening, but it wasn't even close to being the only exciting thing happening that day. Early (10:00 is early for those of us that enjoy sleeping in on Saturday) Saturday morning we had the privilege of participating in a ground breaking ceremony for a new church building that is being built here in Rapid City.

It was very exciting to a part of this special day. As one of our good friends said, "It was a great day to be a Mormon". The building is supposed to be done at the first of next year and then a new ward will be created. We aren't certain at this time how it will all play out as far as boundaries, and though we will be sad if we are no longer in the same ward as many of our friends, it is exciting to see progress happening here.
Saturday morning was also the time for Jordan's Pinewood derby. It was fun to have Papa here for that too.
Scott had control of the camera during the races and somehow didn't think about taking a picture of Jordan with his car. But this picture is of Jordan's car winning. Jordan took 1st place, which he was thrilled about. I do have to brag a little here. Not only did Jordan win, but he was very kind and congratulated the other boys on their races, even when he beat them. In my book that makes him an even bigger winner.
The fun didn't end on Saturday, no way. Sunday was a beautiful day and we enjoyed some family time outside.

We knew what was coming so we told the kids to enjoy the 80 degree weather while it lasted. Monday morning the wind started blowing. Monday afternoon the snow started. By Monday evening it was a blizzard and by Tuesday afternoon this is what it looked like.
My Dad was supposed to fly back to Denver Monday morning, but because of the wind and the approaching blizzard the airport closed, for two days. We got two extra bonus days with him before he flew out early this morning.
*Now our school year doesn't end until the second week of June. With all of our snow days this winter we have added on extra days at the end of the year. Yay! Not!

14 people have something to say:
Thanks for the update! Looks lke you had a great "weekend" :0). Love all the pictures, especially the one with Papa and the kids--bet they loved that!!
wow! I'm glad I left town before that blizzard hit! Jordan has great sportsmanship, but don't the McLaws cars always win???
Congrats to Jordan on EVERYTHING--especially the good sportsmanship. (Nothing better) Good for him.
How wonderful that your dad got to be there.
We are being pounded with snow and ice today. Allan was going to drive down to Utah on Friday but is flying out today--at least we hope he gets out today.
Love all the pictures.
I have to agree that it was a very fun filled weekend. We too have loved the extra days together and playing in the snow. We always get a really big drift in our backyard that the kids love building forts in. I am gald that your dad was able to stay a few extra days. I am sure you all enjoyed having him here.
I'm voting this best post of the day. It's filled with fun, accomplishment, growth and building up of the Kingdom of God and grandparents. I couldn't wish for a better week or post.
What a very fun sounding weekend. How wonderful that your dad was able to share in all the happenings!
I thought we had crazy weather here! ;o)
Yes, yes you did have a full 'weekend'!! but how fun to have your dad stay for a couple extra days! :)
I liked the snow as well. I also hope that you liked the concert.:)
Hey, don't you guys know it's Spring already?
ITA with what Klin said.
And congrats on the PWD win. YAY!
I loved this post!!! Isn't it funny how you can be jumping on the trampoline one day and shoveling snow the next?
So, cool to participate in a groundbreaking ceremony---something your kids will always remember!
stay warm!!
What fun to have these extra days off together, but yah...boo for school that far into June!
Jordan looks so handsome in his suit! And your girls look darling in their dresses. It looks like you've been up to a lot of fun stuff.
Congrats to Jordan on winning the Pinewood Derby. Last year "D's" car was SO fast. He won every one of the races. Right before the final race, his little brother pulled the wheel off. It was repaired, but wasn't the same. So "D" ended up coming in second. I don't know who's more excited to redeem themselves this year, "D" or my hubby! LOL! :)
It's so good to see a post from you again! I miss getting to read them!
Sounds like a wonderful time and a busy weekend!
I'm amazed at the shorts one day and the snow hats the next. What a nutty winter. :)
Your son looks great with that cello!
