Here is an example of what I have been spending my time working on over the last week.
Did you know that you have over 20 feet of intestine squished inside your body and that the small intestine is actually longer than the large intestine? Fascinating, I know! ;) I finally finished my pathophysiology portion of my medical transcription training. Let's just say it was brutal and I am glad that it is done. However, I don't see it getting any easier from here on out. Yikes! Here is an update of what else has been going on in our little world:
- Today we had snow and wind and cold, again. Someone obviously forgot to tell mother nature about global warming, or it hasn't hit South Dakota yet, or something. I would take global warming anyday now! Despite the cold and icky weather, the kids have tried to get out and enjoy it. The big kids too, that is Scott driving the 4-wheeler with the kids last Saturday.
- Our chickens have been happily laying eggs despite the cold weather as well. We are getting anywhere from 15 to 30 eggs a day. Luckily I found some people who are interested in buying eggs from us because really you can only eat so many eggs so many ways before somebody (and by somebody I mean Megan) complains.
We have noticed a difference in some of our eggs. Sometimes we get some really HUGE ones.
Yesterday we got the smallest egg we have ever gotten. The kids are anxious to crack it open and see what it looks like.
- Recently we celebrated a very special day at our house. Megan turned 5 on February 6th.
All of a sudden my baby is all grown up. I can't figure out where the time has gone. Unfortunately for Megan, her mom has decided that being 5 means that, though she will always be my baby, it is time to stop acting like one. Megan goes from acting like a baby to having major attitude, all within a matter of seconds. On the way to school the other day I was explaining to Megan that 5 year olds use words not grunts or whining. Then as we were approaching an intersection I stopped to wait for oncoming traffic before turning left. Megan tells me from the back seat (complete with attitude), "Mom, the light is green, that means you can go!" Uh, thanks for using words Megan!
- And finally, in our "out of the mouths of babes" section, you know when you get the giggles and it is hard to stop. Does this ever happen at inappropriate times, like when your family is trying to say family prayer? Just as we knelt down this morning to say family prayer Jordan asked me if I was going to town today. Then he said this as Scott was asking Kimberly to say the prayer...
Jordan: I was thinking if you were going into town maybe you could pick me up a "G"string (pause) for my cello.
Mom: (I immediately start laughing uncontrollably while Kimberly is waiting to say the prayer.)

14 people have something to say:
LOL. I love the "G string" comment!
Wow, your chickens do need big hugs, those are some neat looking eggs!
Ah, my baby just turned 5 also! Where does the time go?
good job chickens! at least you won't be hungry if you get snowed in, now you just need a cow and a pig, for milk and bacon...
Someone explained to me about the smaller eggs once, but I can't remember now.
How cool to have your own eggs! We have neighbors with chickens, and I always think it would be fun, but since I sometimes forget to feed the parakeet I think the chickens would be better off not living with us!
Love to hear about the 'g' strings! I'm still laughing. Congrats on the new calling. Very exciting! What is Shauna going to do with all the time she now has on her hands?
Sounds like things are still hopping along at your place. The g string comment has me laughing!
Our three year old often will call the scriptures "strippers". That's always good for a laugh, too. ;o)
I think I'd want to hug a chicken that laid an egg like that--poor thing ; )
Love the g-string comment. There would have been no way prayer could have been said here for quite awhile after that comment.
Glad you are doing well.
Time does go much too quickly.
HAHAHAHA! You're so naughty.
I'm glad I didn't know and my mom didn't know what a g-string was when I played the cello.
Awkward!
Those eggs are insane.
You hugging a chicken made me laugh.
Aww, hugging the chicken (Nobody took all my comments)
How can you still have that much snow? COol.
Wow, those eggs are huge!
The eggs are awesome!
I am jealous at how far your are in your studies. I am still in muscles. I've been squeezing in as much as I can in the evenings, but with basketball season that's been like 20 minutes a nite! lol The season ends this weekend, so I'll be gettin' all serious. ;)
Ahh, anatomy and physiology. That takes me back.
I love the whole baby/attitude thing. That is totally Alex right now.
I love the different colors that eggs come in. Do you know why? Way cool that you are getting so many.
G-string was awesome! Who could have held a straight face let alone giggles with a question like that. Maybe a music teacher? Ha! Ha!
Thanks for the laughs. :0)
Wow! Look at those eggs! That is so fun. ;)
Why do you tempt me with the idea of trying chickens again? Just kidding, but honestly... I think the hubby does want to try again.
A G string!?! LOL! How fun that Megan is 5 now. The time really does go fast, doesn't it! We have major attitude at our house too. I'm beginning to think that my kids aren't going to outgrow it... I can always hope though! :)
A G String...LOL! And I bet you felt naughty and awkward because you were the only one that took it the wrong way...happens to me all the time... :/
