- Our enrichment night went well. I forgot to take pictures of the centerpieces, but they did turn out very cute. We had a sister in our ward decorate them. She used the President Hinckley "Be" theme and painted cute bees and beehives on them. Then we put the dirt dessert in them and served it with a little garden shovel. It turned out very cute. We had a man come and talk to us about gardening and got some helpful hints and ideas from that.
- Last Thursday Scott and I packed up the kids, rented a travel trailer, loaded it up and headed to Martin's Cove in Wyoming.

Independence Rock - about 5 miles from Martin's Cove and the place I got stranded at last summer.

Kaylynn and Kimberly at the bottom of Independence Rock
With Scott's new calling he is partly in charge of the upcoming handcart trek to Martin's Cove for the youth in our stake. We went there for some training for him and ended up having a marvelous time. The kids and I got the royal treatment from the senior missionaries there while Scott was in training with about 100 other leaders from various states.

The kids at the Sweetwater river where the handcart pioneers had to cross through icy cold water.

One of the senior missionaries gave us a special tour around the Martin's Cove visitor's center.
On Friday afternoon Scott and I pulled a handcart for over 5 miles carrying our three daughters while Jordan pushed. I could talk all day of the awesome spirit and feeling that can be felt at Martin's Cove. The stories of the people and the suffering that they went through is heart wrenching and moving. If you want to read some of their stories go here. Make sure you have tissues nearby. I would totally recommend this historical site to anyone that is in the area. It is worth the time spent there. I also recommend this book. It is a historical novel written by the same author as the Work and the Glory series.
- I am trying once again to lose weight. I have renewed my goals and my commitment and hope to be able to lose 10 pounds in the next 2 months. Considering that I have lost only 4 pounds in the last 4 months, this might be hard, but I am up for the challenge.
- Part of my motivation for losing weight is a trip to Hawaii in October. My brother in law has qualified for the second year in a row to go to the Ironman World Championship competition in Kona Hawaii this October. Scott's sister has invited us to go. They are renting a house for 10 days and have invited us to come and stay with them. We have been wanting to plan a getaway together for sometime and figured this might be our chance. I have always wanted to go to Hawaii, so I am really excited for this opportunity.
- Because Kimberly and Kaylynn turned eight on Sunday they now have the opportunity to be baptized. They have chosen to do so and will be baptized this Saturday. I am really proud of them for their decision! All of the grandmas and grandpas are coming to town to share in this special day. My sister in law Terri, that lives here in Rapid City, has made beautiful dresses for them. It is shaping up to be a fun, exciting and speical weekend. I have much to do to get ready, so I must be going.

12 people have something to say:
I'm first! :)
Congrats to Kimberly and Kaylynn for choosing to get baptized. I'm sure it will be a special day for everyone.
And congrats to you for getting to go to Hawaii! I'm filled with jealousy! O.k....kidding. I'm really happy for you and that should be great motivation for losing weight.
Are you going to see Wendy while you're there? :)
I've never been to Martin's Cove, but I've heard it's wonderful. My hubby got to go with his family right after we got married, but I had just started a new job and couldn't take time off work so I missed out. I'd love to do it someday though.
OOoh- I am so jealous of your Hawaii trip! I hope you have a blast!!
Congrats to the girls on the upcoming baptism!
Hawaii sounds like a lot of fun.
I've always wanted to visit Martin's Cove.
You have been busy! Goodness woman! :) So, you get to go to Hawaii....will you be able to visit Wendy while you're there (or does she live on another island? I get them all confused with each other). I wish you well on your goal of wieght loss. If you can be strong and not eat chocolate for 3 months then I think you can achieve this goal too! 'Cause you are a wonderwoman! :)
I love the enrichment thing... I think i may go off of that.. .and copy you... do you mind? :)
wonderful amanda! and way cool how they want to be baptised, too. will they do it the same day or separate events? love seeing the happy fam pictures.

OK, that is way fun...rent a travel trailer and go!
Good luck on the 10lbs
I love baptism days, so happy for your girls.
I'll have to remember that Be theme thing and the centerpieces for the next time I have to do something like that. It sounds so cute!
Hawaii sounds like a blast! Have fun. Martin's Cove sounds great too. I love pioneer stories. I'll have to check out your links.
That looks like so much fun!
We live in an an area with enough LDS people to have a Stake Baptism, rather than one specific to the child. I'm bummed because unless we want to wait for months and months, most family won't be able to come.
Congratulations on your upcoming trip to Hawaii and fo sho on the baptisms. That is the best! I just thought about sharing your baptism with someone, how cool they are sharing it with a sister.
Super awesome pictures.
Ironman World Championship. My son would be going crazy about that, let alone going to Hawaii :)
Amanda - I am so far behind on reading your blog! Eeek! You guys have been so busy! The trip to Martin's Cove sounds so great. How exciting that they youth in your stake get to do a trek.
Weight loss is such a constant thing, isn't it? I somehow managed to gain 3 pounds in the last few weeks....
