How it all went down

Thanks for all your kind words and comments on my last post. You are all so sweet! Thank you!

I have one word that sums up my final day and evening of my chocolate challenge. Anticlimactic. As often happens on Fridays, my husband was late getting home from work. He works in a body shop fixing wrecked cars and Friday is always a busy day trying to get all the cars done and ready to go before the weekend. So we didn't actually leave on our date until 7:00.

We went to dinner at Red Lobster. I had my eye on a chocolate chip lava cookie for dessert, but by the time I was done with dinner I was full (I even took 1/2 my dinner home). I wanted to do this right and decided that chocolate wasn't worth making myself sick over. We decided that we could go somewhere else later for dessert. We also decided that for my chocolate reward that Scott would take the kids later this week and let me go shopping by myself. :) Instead we went shopping for the twin's birthday which is coming up next Sunday.

We ended up at Shopk0. We got in line to check out and ended up spending 1/2 an hour waiting because they were having some computer/register problems. By the time we got out of there it was after 10:00. All the restaurants were closing up except Perkins. I was dead set on getting my chocolate. I didn't want to go home and just eat chocolate candy, I wanted to end with something big. I ordered the brownie sundae dessert.

At first it felt weird to be eating chocolate again. Like eating the forbidden fruit, except that it wasn't forbidden anymore. :) Looking back on it, I probably should have ordered the cherry pie, which actually sounded better than the brownie sundae (what is wrong with me?), but I had to order chocolate. It was all really very anticlimactic. I waited 90 days for this? I don't know what I was expecting really, maybe the heavens to open up and hear angels signing "Hallelujah" the moment I ate chocolate again. Yeah, that didn't happen.

I have learned a few lessons from my chocolate challenge:
1. It is okay not to eat chocolate just because it is there.
2. I won't actually die (or feel like I am going to die) if I don't eat chocolate.
3. I can be strong and don't have to give into my chocolate cravings, or other temptations for that matter.
4. Chocolate is not making me fat. I only lost 3 pounds during my 90 days without chocolate. Bummer!
5. Sometimes the satisfaction of accomplishing something hard is the best reward of all.

I'm sorry your reward night was a bummer. But I will anxiously await news of your shopping trip...that isn't likely to be a let down, right?! :)

At least we know now! However, I wish the moment would have been better for you! You are too cute!

So are you telling me I don't have to give up the hot tamales, because it really just doesn't matter?? :)

However... that is a pound a month... that is 12 lbs in a year... that could be worth it...

Oh, that is kind of a bummer, but it's cool you learned some things in this process. Good for you! And happy shopping!

That does sound a little like a downer. Too bad. I think I need to do the chocolate challenge. Anytime I have stress: straight for the chocolate! I guess it is my "drug" of choice. Love your blog. :)

Uhm, Red Lobster? Who wants dessert after going there? Those biscuits are to die for. Oh yes they are. They do have a nice key lime pie.

My chocolate cravings curbed themselves. I still have chocolate from Valentines. What the cabbage is that about? Still don't know. Just doesn't taste right.

Congrats to you on your 90 days. I would have gone with the cherry pie. Fruit always wins over chocolate for me. ;)

While it was kind of a let down, I want to say that it will make it more much the sweeter to wait for another opportunity to have some real decadente chocolatey dessert.
:)
Good for you Amanda, I am very impressed.

Your chocolate lesson #4 reminded me of this:

Chocolate Calories

A good piece of chocolate has about 200 calories.
As I enjoy two servings per night, and a few more on weekends, I consume 3,500 calories of chocolate in a week, which equals one pound of weight per week.

Therefore...
In the last 3 1/2 years, I have had a chocolate caloric intake of about 180 pounds.
I weigh only 165 pounds, so without chocolate, I would have wasted away to nothing about three months ago!
I owe my life to chocolate

Think about that the next time you consider giving up chocolate. :)
