Chick Flick movie marathon in review

As I have mentioned in my last couuple of posts, while Scott has been gone I have been having my own little chick flick marathon. I thought I would do a little review of what I've seen.

Sense & Sensibility
I am a huge Jane Austin fan. This movie is based off one of her books by the same title. I liked it, but it wasn't my favorite. I'm glad I saw it and I would recommend it. Hugh Grant was a little stiff, but then again that was part of his character I guess.

I loved this movie the first time I saw it and I still love it. Jennifer Garner is so cute and funny in this movie. I thought it was such a cute story with a happy ending. I think Mark Ruffalo is adorable too. I really like this movie.

An Affair to Remember
This is a classic love story. If you have never seen it before, you should. I liked it, though at times it was a little cheesey and overly dramatic. That probably has more to do with the fact that it is an old movie. I liked it, but didn't love it like Meg Ryan's character in "Sleepless in Seattle". ;)

The Notebook
I first saw this movie in the theatre. I loved the story and bought it as soon as it came out on DVD. I do love the story and Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling were really good together (btw, did you know they are dating?). It is one of those movies that really draws you in. You get engrossed with the characters and their story and when it is over it leaves you wishing for more. Having said that, I do wish that they wouldn't have shown so much skin. It was a little uncomfortable at times. Despite that it still makes me cry every time I watch it. Very good movie, just cover your eyes. ;)

Pride & Prejudice
I've already talked about my love for this movie. I have seen 4 different versions of this movie. Most recently the one with Keira Knightly. Like I said before, this Mr. Darcy is by far my favorite. Overall, I think I liked the 1940's version of this movie. I like them all for different reasons. It is hard to pick a favorite. Anyway, it is a great love story.

Music & Lyrics
I was actually surprised at how much I liked this movie. I was afraid that it might be too much like some of the other romantic comedies with too much s3x and not enough substance. I was delighted to find that it was actually very cute, without too much s3x. Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant were cute together. I am not a Hugh Grant fan, but I liked him in this movie. The music was fun too, especially the 80's music video that Hugh is in. Very good movie!

Breakfast at Tiffany's
I had never seen this movie before and really had no idea what it was about. It was very different than I imagined it to be. Audrey Hepburn is beautiful and elegant, despite her "profession". There were some pretty funny parts in this movie and I thought it was good. I'm not sure what I liked better though, the movie itself or just watching Aubrey Hepburn with her fancy clothes and hair.

Well, there you have it. A glimpse at my terribly dull and unproductive life over the last few days. Luckily Scott will be home on Sunday so I can snap back into reality. In the meantime, I still have 2 more nights of movie watching freedom. ;)

Thanks for the review ; )

I LOVE Audrey Hepburn and I have never seen Breakfast at Tiffany's either. I think your description of her is perfect.

13 Going on 30 is so fun--still love The Thriller part.

Enjoy the next couple of nights.

I've only seen 2 versions of P&P, and so far I have to side with the A&E version only. Colin Firth is the only Darcy for me! :)

Love, love, love 13 Going On 30! We also just watched Music and Lyrics. I liked it, and enjoyed the 80's video! Although.....why can't they make a movie without having the couple sleep together??!

Great movie line up! Sounds like you've had fun while your men were away. Enjoy the last 2 days with out them! :)

hi amanda. happy friday. really fun post today. i, too, loved "13 going on 30" from the first time i saw it and have seen it a couple times since. i love the thriller scene and i loved that part where she says "it's cause i have these!" laughed!! this is by far my favorite jennifer garner movie for she completely embraced the character and was absolutly adorable in this role, like looking at the world with childlike eyes. she nailed it.

i, too, was sooooo moved by "the notebook" but i was so uncomfortable with the too much skin parts. i tried to overlook those parts and just savored the rest of the story. i totally believed that they were achingly in love with other, like nothing they had ever felt before. i cried and cried during the movie. and also read the book and cried practically the whole way through. that guy can write a story that just pulls your heart to the surface like not many authors can do. i love love love that ending where you don't really know what's going to happen and there she shows up and runs right into his arms, so cuddly sweet, not too much, just sweet like you could practically feel how much they cared for each other it hurt. beautiful.

i, too, love that "P&P" the best with keira knightly. i wrote about this and more in my blog post this morning if you want to come see. come see me. it is sweet what i wrote. i looooove how they almost ended this one .. with the head nuzzling instead of a typical hollywood kiss. awwwhh! perfect. my toes are curling just writing about this! ha

i, too, really enjoyed "music and lyrics." i was surprised i did because i honestly thought it was going to be lame. i was pleasantly surprised. i loved the fun poking at 80s music (because i am 39 and i can relate). i don't like him as an actor but i was so amused at how he looked like he had so much getting into that role and showing us stuff he doesn't normally in his other movies. i loved that song. in fact, i have it on my playlist.

great list amanda. fun to take a look at these again and remember some sweet moments. hahah, i am still thinking of the thriller scene with jennifer garner. she seems like she totally eats up what she does and has so much fun just being. that is a good way to be in life.

nighty night amanda. he he, sorry the comment is soooo long, like a book. i just wanted to hit some highlights about these that i enjoyed. you made me grin the other day when you said my fun and sweet comments always make your day. you are a sweetheart and i love reading your blog and your notes everytime amanda. peace, kathleen

Thanks for the reviews. i love 13 going on 30 too!!

Ryan and Rachel broke up and he was dating Michelle Williams (Heath Ledger's ex). Not sure if they still are. He (Ryan) was also raised LDS and still speaks highly of the church. Makes him even cuter. He was also a Mouseketeer with Justin TImberlake, Britney Spears, etc...

I've never seen An Affair to Remember, but always wanted to. For some reason I forget about it until someone mentions it again. I just might have to go rent that one.

I rented 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' a few months ago, and I agree that most of the movie I was watching her. Such a beautiful lady, and I like her life bio.

I love 'The Notebook', I also love... I MEAN LOVE 'A Walk to Remember' the movie.

The ending to THAT version of 'Pride and Prejudice' curled my toes too. Yum! I fall in love with Mr Darcy in every version.

Great list!

The only one I have seen is Sense and Sensibility. Yes, in HS I had a crush on Emma Thompson. Don't ask me why. However, I am proud to say I have not seen any of the rest of the movies, nor plan on it. And for at least the last 8+ years my actress crush has been Drew Barrymore.
