Last year I had a hard time knowing what to say on this day, the anniversary of 9/11. I waited until the next day to write anything. Since I only had a couple of readers back then, I figured it would be okay to post it again. This is what I wrote on 9/12/06.
9/11 - The Day After

No matter how many times I tried, I just could not put into words how I was feeling yesterday. Many bloggers had such touching tributes to 9/11 and I wanted to say something too. I just lack the ability to adequately express how I was feeling.
As all of us were, I was forever changed by the events of that day. I will never forget how I felt when I turned on the TV for my son to watch Barney and instead watched in horror as our world changed. I felt shock, horror, dismay, anger, sadness, and all of a sudden very very vulnerable. I pray that I can take something positive from that experience and teach my children love and tolerance, and above all else to look to God when life seems unbearable.
Our local newspaper had a quote yesterday that I would like to share:
"This will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave"
-Elmer Davis, American news commentator (1890-1958)
We witnessed bravery and courage beyond measure on that day five years ago. The terrorists may have taken away our innocence. They may have given us all reason to fear more than we ever did before. They may even think that they have won, but they can never take away the American spirit.
God Bless America, land that I love!
I'd like to add a huge thanks to all those who serve our country! Thank you for the tremendous sacrifices that you and your families make on our behalf! Words cannot express how grateful I am for all that you do.

7 people have something to say:

I, too, am grateful for service men and women who sacrifice so much so we can enjoy our freedom.
