Thursday 13 - Why I love winter

Okay, maybe love is a little strong. But winter is coming like it or not and I had better get used to the idea.

1 - hot chocolate
2 - warm sweaters
3 - fuzzy slippers
4 - hot from the oven casseroles
5 - a warm cozy fireplace
6 - watching the snow fall
7 - the quiet and stillness in the evening after it has snowed
8 - playing in the snow with my family
9 - Christmas
10 - Christmas vacation (no school=sleeping in)
11 - My warm leather coat that my sweet husband gave me. Probably the only reason I can survive the South Dakota wind.
12 - Knowing it won't last forever!
13 - Spring!!

These are actual photos taken in February 2004. They were taken by our friends who live on Ellsworth Airforce Base, which is about 10 miles from our house. This was the worst storm I have seen since we moved to South Dakota. The snow was bad enough, but add the wind and you get BIG drifts.

Their front door is hiding behind the snow drift.

This is after they dug a tunnel from their front door. By the way, Nick is 6' 1" tall.

Those pictures are insane!!! I just moved from Michigan and was fortunate enough to not have experienced what your pictures show (close but never that bad). Now spring thunderstorms are another story! I love winter too, but am so glad to be away from the snow this year....I'll be loving San Diego come January for sure! :)

That storm happened just after we moved here - it was great! I remember my neighbor's dog was able to just walk over snow-drift and right over the fence.

Another neighbor was moving in while the snow was still deep. Her husband was in training and she was pregnant, so Hannah Sydney and I (and other neighbors) shovelled tons of snow to make way for the movers.

The Creers pulled up the day before the storm hit, and they were stranded at the base lodging - everything closed down and they had very little food! Exciting!

I love winter! My favorite part is wearing warm socks. I wonder if you wear socks in Hawaii.

fragile flower, San Diego sounds wonderful, especially in January!
I have a love/hate relationship with winter.

Wendy, admit it you will miss the snow and the wind and the wind and the cold and the...alright I am only fooling myself. No, I seriously doubt socks will really be necessary in Hawaii. Can we come visit you in January, maybe stay till spring?

I love snow, but that amount might be a little bit too much (cool pics btw).

And I love points 1-13, now I feel like not going out, making some hot cocoa, reading my book, and wishing for snow :)

Thanks for sharing your list...we actually had a bit of a snow storm yesterday. I was TOTALLY unprepared! Luckily it all melted and is pretty much gone now, but I'm SO not ready for it! (Although, now your list has me getting excited!)
AND that snow tunnel pic is AMAZING! I've never seen that much snow in real life! HOLY COW!

WOW! Great pictures! I guess Laura Ingalls Wilder really wasn't exaggerating when she spoke of the snow drifts in South Dakota. It makes me cold just looking!

Could I be crazy and say I am jealous? I miss so much having four seasons living down in Texas. I am to the point where I would LOVE to complain about the cold, instead of the heat.
Sigh....
