Heather, Mary and I (Kendra was taking the picture)
It was almost as much fun people watching as it was just waiting for the book. They had all kinds of contests - trivia, dancing, apple biting, costume/look a like and more. I was 71st in line to get my book and it was so weird to finally have it in my hands. We also ran into several friends from church as well as Jordan and Kaylynn's kindergarten teacher. Who knew?Phew! Three days (I finished at 11:30 last night) and 750+ pages later, I am done. I really tried hard to not get sucked in. I only read one chapter when I got home early Saturday morning. Then I put it down until Saturday afternoon. I got to the point yesterday when I just decided that I had to finish it, just to get it done and out of my system and get on with my life.
Now, my review of the book. I will not give anything away, I promise. I have to admit that I was very disappointed in this book at the beginning. Stephenie took some interesting and I felt somewhat cheesey plot twists. To me it was like she was trying too hard to out do herself. Though, by the end it all made more sense and I ultimately did enjoy the book, I was tempted to throw the book across the room a couple of times early on. I don't know that it was my favorite out of the series, but it definitely tied up all the loose ends in a pretty little package.
I have felt with the other books and felt even more strongly with this one, though these books are written for young adults, I would not feel comfortable letting my teenage daughters read them. Call me a prude or old-fashioned or whatever, but I really feel that these books are too sensual (especially the 4th one, which we all knew was going to happen) and the content is a little mature for young readers. I could say more, but I will step aside from my soapbox, for now.
Now that I am done reading it is time to get back to reality and preparing for a little getaway I am taking later this week. I am thrilled for the opportunity to go to Portland to see some friends. I am driving to Denver on Thursday afternoon (all by myself) and then catching a plane Friday morning (all by myself) for Portland. I have never done anything like this before so I am a little nervous. I am also terribly excited and looking forward to a little "girl time".

12 people have something to say:
I guess I'm an old lady, just couldn't bring myself to go to the midnight release.
I'm just barely into the book--I know I won't finish by this weekend. (I haven't even flipped to the end ; )
Drive carefully.
I agree with the books being too sensual. That- and they make it sound like the guy you meet in high school must be "the one." And a lot of us know that's not usually the case... ;)
Please be careful driving! Your flight arrives one minute after mine. :)
yvonne: I just had to go to the release to see what it was like. I had never done anything like that before. I'm all into trying new things latley I guess.
I neglected my house, my kids and my husband to read. That is why I read it so fast. I don't recommend doing it that way. ;)
tori: I felt the same way about the "finding the one in high school concept". I know that happens, but it isn't exactly realistic.
I am actually looking forward to some a lone time on my drive. No whiny kids.....YES! :)
I haven't read the 4th book yet, but I remember being very surprised on the first one at just how sensual they are.
Have fun in Portland! I'm so jealous that there are so many people meeting up. :o)
well, I finally started it. Thanks for not giving anything away in your blog. I guess I better just finish the thing, before someone does ruin it for me though. The first 150 pages that I have read though I agree with you 100%. Have fun in Portland.
I think after I get some of my kids in school I'm going to start on that series. I haven't read any of them so I'll try it out.
Have a blast on your trip! It sounds like it will be fun! What do you plan to do?
I loved it! Just read it yesterday. But I agree it's not a kid book.
My two teenage daughters have read them. Sadly the world they live in (read: high school) is very centered around sex. I like to read what they are reading and sometimes watch what they are watching so we can discuss it & talk about how things really are in the Lord's plan.
My 8 year old wants to read it and I told her no way. NOT until she is 13 or older, sadly she has friends who have read them.
We're so excited to see you! :)
I paperclipped the honeymoon pages together for my twelve-year-old's protection. There's enough immoral bombardment going on in their world, without adding this into the mix... although it was tame. Just not tame enough!
Have a great trip - see you in a couple!
I loved the book, but I do agree with your review! I guess it's a good thing that I have boys so I don't have to worry about them reading it! ;D
And LOL at Millie and her paperclips! :)
I STILL haven't read it yet. What is my deal?
Have fun this weekend. Wish I could be there.
I just finished the book, I TOTALLY agree with you on the first of the book. I was disappointed in the storyline. BUT, the middle to end had me hooked. (I thought the name was dumb...if you know what I mean. Don't want to spoil.)
My 10.5 year old is begging me to let her read it. No way, not until she is a bit older. The fourth book just put the exclamation point that:D
Have fun on your trip! I'm jealous!
