It is nice to be back to blogging after a wonderful weekend. Conference was awesome! Sleeping in on Sunday and not having to go to church was awesome! Spending time with my family was awesome! Sleeping in was awesome! All in all it was....an awesome weekend!
Because inquiring minds want to know, I must respond to the question of why my children were spoiled lucky enough to get Tuesday off in addition to Monday. No carrot, Columbus was not from South Dakota. :) Tuesday was a teacher compensation day for parent/teacher conference. Fascinating I know!
Now, back to blogging business. I have this love/hate relationship going on.
The love:
In the springtime I am delighted when the two big trees in our front yard begin to grow leaves again. For 6 months out of the year we get to enjoy these beauties of nature. I love to crack open the windows in my living room and listen to the birds singing in the trees and hear the leaves swaying in the breeze. I love the privacy that the trees afford us. I know my neighbors across the street appreciate this too. For 6 months they get more to look at besides our hideously ugly green house.
Christmas Day 2005, obviously not when the trees are in full bloom. Don't be fooled. The rest of the house is the same green color that surrounds our front door. Painting the house is on our list of things to do, eventually.
The hate:
Come late September and October the feeling in the air starts to change. The temperatures start to fall - so do the leaves. Our once happily hidden neighbors begin to get annoyed. Not only is our hideously ugly green house once again visible, but the leaves from our two big trees are lovingly blown on their lawn by mother nature. I am left with the problem, Do I rake once a week for the next month or do I wait until the last leaf falls and then start raking? By then a large number of the leaves have already been raked and bagged by our neighbors. I generally opt for the later.
Another slightly annoying feature to having these beautiful trees in our front yard is this:
I awoke one summer morning to this lovely present from a bird obviously suffering from birdy diarrhea. I'm still not sure how they accomplished this...."window art" due to the 5 foot overhang above the windows (see above picture of house). That bird has some aim! The same sick sweet bird left it's mark on my car as well.
We are forunate enough to have an even larger tree in the backyard that produces many leaves all summer long and generously deposits them in our yard each fall.
Have a great Wednesday everyone! :)

10 people have something to say:
ROFL. Do birdies poop as they fly, maybe?
Wow! That is a lot of leaves! Do your kids jump in the piles for hours and hours??? It must be so much work to keep them cleaned up.
Oh, and that's a lot of birdie poop! :D
That good wind will blow your leaves away if you just leave them out a little longer! Last year I raked and raked and raked a few piles of my neighbors leaves, but I didn't bag until the next day. By then my piles of leaves were nearly gone!
You have such a beautiful yard!
Some of my favorite memories about fall revolve around the leaf pile...my grandma used to rake paths in them, or let me rake paths in them, and then I'd run along the paths for hours. Until grandpa came out with the lawn mower with mulcher attached.
Ahh...fall. Who knew you would be so annoying when I grew up?
The leaves are worth it because of the beautiful colors before they fall!!!! Sorry about all that bird poop. (And you're right--Conference was awesome)
I am not a fan of raking leaves. Do your neighbors have their own trees to rake after, too? I can understand the love/hate....
I feel envious of you on so many levels with this post:
Big, beautiful yard!
Sleeping in on Sunday!
You have fall weather!
"birdy diarrhea" :(
Through the screen, on the window, on your car :(
Anyway, Fall's colors are the best. Leaves are annoying but eventually we'll get rid of all of them, right?
Right?
nikko: That is what I'm thinking. :)
suzanne: Yes, the kids are great a racking them up and then jumping in them. They don't make it into bags very quickly. That is the fun of it!
wendy: Yep, I know if I wait long enough they will disappear....into my neighbors front yard. hehehehe
wynne: I remember loving playing in the leaves too. It was loads of fun, then.
yvonne: Yes, I do love the beautiful colors of fall!! :)
lisa: No, our neighbors across from us don't. So I know that the leaves they are raking are mine. Oops!
mary: I do love fall, even with the cold weather around the corner and the leaves to pick up. Sorry about your heat wave!
NCS: Right! The bird poop was so gross. I had to scrub and scrub and scrub to get it off the window and the screen! Yuck!
I love when the leaves change colors and it reminds us all it's fall... It is the only thing I miss about living in Utah, is the changing of summer to fall. Although, the reminder of raking... reminds me that it's nice to go to Utah in the fall and then come home and NOT have to rack at all! :)
That is some amazing bird poop!
