Trying to get back in the groove

It's been entirely too long since I've been able to sit down and spend time blogging. It seems the longer I go without blogging, the harder it is to get back in the groove. I haven't been able to read and/or comment like I have wanted to. My bloglines feeds are overflowing, I doubt I will get to all of them. Sorry.

A little update on our life...
  • Our house guests left on Friday. We had three men, a father and his two grown sons, staying with us during the rally. Scott worked with one of the sons when we lived in Utah. We got to be really close to his family before we moved. In fact they are the ones that moved with us when we moved to South Dakota. They unfortunately moved back to Utah after a few months. My kids thought their motorcycles were awesome and were obviously entranced by them. They were quite pleasant, not to mention entertaining, and we enjoyed having them here. Aside from the occasional cigarette butt (ewwwww) I've found in the yard they made for good house guests.
  • Megan finally got on board with the whole potty training business. Shortly after I blogged about how hopeless the situation appeared to be, I decided to put my foot down and let her know who really is in charge of this house, and it's not the three year old. :) I haven't bought diapers for a month now. She has done fabulous, even on our trip to Utah. I am happy to say that we are a diaper free household....For-eeeee-ver!
  • We have been swimming a lot lately. I bought swim passes at the first of July at first planning on paying for swim lessons. When I realized that we could swim as much as we wanted to for the rest of the summer with swim passes for the same amount of money for two weeks of lessons I opted for the swim passes. The kids have been doing well and have gotten more comfortable in their swimming abilities. Not to mention I have been working on my incredible tan. Hahahaha!
  • I have been feeding one of my other addictions lately, that of reading. Thanks to Tori I bought Twilight while I was in Utah. I started it there but had to put it aside while I read Tangled Roots the book for our next book club meeting. While reading that I realized that it was a sequel to Cankered Roots, a book I read over 10 years ago so I had to reread that book again. GG Vandagriff is the author and has quite an interesting history herself. There is another book in this series that I will have to get my hands on. But back to Twilight. Oh my goodness. I am hooked. I can't put it down. My house is suffering, my children are bored, and I can't stop reading it. Luckily I only bought Twilight and not the accompanying two sequels. I'll have to see if my library has them or order them online.
  • Our Enrichment Night is a week from today so I have been in anxiety/panic mode for several days now. This time around I was able to delegate more of the responsibilities and that has helped to ease my anxiety level tremendously. We are already trying to figure out what to do for our Freaky Friday (it has become our tradition in our ward to get together on a Friday evening rather than having a Super Saturday, it is a lot of fun staying out late and working on crafts) coming up in October. And then their is Christmas to think about. I am so glad that I am not planning a monthly EN I would probably go insane!
This summer has passed far too quickly. I do look forward to the 'break' that comes when the kids go back to school. I've also really enjoyed this summer with the kids. They are getting older and are more self sufficient therefore making it easier and funner to take places. We still have lots to do before the summer is over. This weekend we are headed to Bismarck North Dakota for our ward temple trip. We decided to make a mini family vacation out of it. I also need to take the kids back to Reptile Gardens . I promised them we would go again.

I'm glad you have a good book to read. Maybe I need to find a copy of Twilight at the library. After finishing HP7, I have been in a book lull, unable to find a good new one to draw me in.

Good luck on enrichment! I like the idea of a friday night get together, then you still have your whole Saturday free to do family stuff. That's a busy calling!

I've got to get in on this bloglines thing.

You've been a busy busy girl!

It's so nice to 'hear' from you again! Glad you have had a great time and a busy/fun summer.

Freaky Friday sounds like a fun idea. We typically have a Super Saturday.

Tangled Roots sounds like a fun read. I'll have to find a copy.

Okay, I just finished Twilight. I loved it!

Today I picked up a copy of the other two. I'm afraid to start reading it because I know I won't be able to put it down and then my kids and my house will hate me:)

I have really enjoyed your blog and am glad to read another post.

I'll have to pick up Twilight--I keep noticing everyone mentioning it.

I love the idea of a Friday Enrichment Night--good luck with it.

So glad Amanda is back in the blogging world!!

We are soooo close to being diaper free that I can smell it...or almost not! We will, like you, be diaper free FOREVER!

It is nice having older children.

Good luck on your enrichment!

My 12 year old cooked sloppy joes for dinner while my 9 year old scooped out watermelon and my 8 year old made lemonade. Nobody in diapers either

Life is good at the Infidel house!

I don't know about you Amanda, but I'm loving this mommy thing much more now than when they were all screaming pooping babies.

I love that even after hardly blogging for a month you all keep coming back! Makes my heart swell!

Mary: You'll have to get your hands on Twilight, it is really good. Freaky Friday's are so much fun!

utmommy: I heart bloglines! :D

nikko: Thanks! It is nice to be back! Tangled Roots was good, especially after I reread the Cankered Roots. Twilight is waaaaay better though. ;)

tori: You can come and stay at my house! :D I ordered New Moon and Eclipse today, along with an ABBA CD. I'll have to explain that one later. :D

millie: Yes it does! I know that the holidays will catch up to me sooner than I expect them to so I might as well start thinking about it now. Sorta depressing. Summer isn't even over yet...

elizabeth: We are doing the no more diaper dance here!!

mel: I ordered my copies on line today. Thankfully I have a while before they get here to catch up on the last few days of reading non-stop! :D

yvonne: Wow, you are so sweet! Nice to 'meet' you! You will love Twilight for sure!

pj: It is such a liberating feeling to know that I am past that phase of mothering and will never pass through it again. YES!!

amber: Yes it has been, not nearly as exciting as Mexico! :D

suzanne: You are so sweet too! And thanks for the award. I need to get right on that!

elastic: Your kids rock! I need to let my kids have more freedom in the kitchen. It just scares me to let em lose. I'm somewhat controlling in that way. I do appreciate the 'help' they give though!

I totally know what you mean about the screaming pooping babies. Somedays I look back and I wonder how we ever survived those first few years!

Kate: I was just lying in bed and realized that somehow I totally missed responding to your comment! Sorry!!

Don't you just love finding a new book to read!

We are pretty good about the sunscreen! Thanks for the reminder! :D

Oh, and I just finished Twilight. I'll beat you reading New Moon. ;)

I love bloglines too... I hate it when it overflows... but I am happy it's all organized and I know what I haven't read yet.

Glad to hear there another one hooked on Twilight! I just got finished with New Moon last night. I am going to take a break and read the 3rd book later on because the "wrap up" book isn't until next fall!!!

Amanda said...

carrot: You still have an infant around the house, potty training can probably wait until they are both older.

No fair! Do you already have New Moon? I don't expect mine until sometime in the next two weeks. :(

Gina: I keep telling myself there is no rush to read the next two books because the next book won't be out for another year. :(
