This and that

It is nearly midnight and I should really be in bed, but I'm not. We just got back from my friend Kendra's house. She is the bestest friend anyone could ask for. Not only did she feed us dinner, but she helped me to make table decorations for our enrichment night tomorrow night. I was sort of in a bind because the person I thought was overseeing the table decorations asked me yesterday what we were doing because hardly anyone had signed up to bring table decorations. Weeks ago I had suggested that we make some cute table decorations that I found on-line.
Minus the cows since our theme has more to do with sheep.

No one liked my idea, I think they didn't want to bother with having to make decorations. Fine. Rather they wanted to ask around to see if anyone had sheep decorations that we could borrow. She was supposed to follow through with this. I didn't know until yesterday that only 3 people had signed up. Panic! Can you imagine bare tables at a Relief Society enrichment night? So I turned to Kendra with my sob story and of course she came through. We spent 3 hours this evening making these (minus the red hangers).

They turned out pretty cute. We even got our husbands in on the action, probably because it was 10:00 and they wanted to go to bed. With a little Spanish moss and raffia, I am hoping they look better than bare tables. With a little luck and a lot of blessings from above, everything will turnout nicely tomorrow night. I've threatened Scott with possible mental breakdown with definite psych ward possibilities if he doesn't consider getting me released from this position, or at least get me more people on my board. Who said you couldn't take advantage of a husband in the bishopric, though I am still wondering how I got this calling in the first place.

Our quickie trip to Bismarck went well. We left Friday afternoon just before 2:00. Apparently the storm of the century hit Rapid City about 3 hours later. We missed all the action, complete with tornado sirens blaring, heavy rainfall with flooding, and baseball size hail. Looks like Scott will be pretty busy for quite a while. I guess all our prayers for more work have really been answered! Fortunately nobody was killed.

I didn't realize that winter comes early in North Dakota. I am not sure what the temperature was when we got there Friday night, but it was mighty cold. Our t-shirts and shorts didn't cut it. I was half expecting snow on the ground when we woke up the next day. Didn't happen. I need to remember that North Dakota is always colder than we are, even in the summer. We will be heading up there again in October. I better pack snow boots. ;)

My package from overstock.com arrived today. I listened to ABBA all afternoon and can't wait to start reading New Moon. As soon as this enrichment night is behind me I can lose myself in a good book once again. Or maybe I should clean my house and catch up on the laundry first.

The rest of the week is shaping up to be a busy one. Wednesday I am helping my friend Jin, who is 9 months pregnant, clean her house that she just moved out of. I promised my kids a trip to Reptile Gardens this week for sure, probably Thursday. On Saturday I am having a baby shower at my house for Jin so I need to spend Friday cleaning and getting ready for that. There is just no rest for the wicked I guess.

I love the sheep. They are so cute. You ask the question, "Can you imagine bare tables at a Relief Society enrichment night?" You bet I can--I can't see myself going to that much trouble, but it's people like you that make it so great going to Enrichment nights!!! Yet, the best part of going is just getting together with friends and learning relaxing and learning something new.

Glad your temple trip was a good one. We make the 5 1/2 hour trip to Regina this weekend. Don't mind it this time of year, but it can be brutal in the winter.

Love the Abba music ; )

I WANT WINTER! OK, at least fall. Count your blessings there in ND!

Ooh, I have ABBA's greatest hits and Wendy is right, they're great to clean the house to (and exercise, but that one doesn't happen as often! LOL!)

Good luck with Enrichment tonight! Your centerpieces look so cute. What a great friend to help you out at the last minute.

I never stop feeling surprised when people don't follow through with their responsibilities. I just don't understand I guess when people let others down at the last minute.

Amanda, I can tell you need a virtual hug! Hopefully after this week you have a little break and life gets back to normal. ***HUGS***

The sheep look pretty darn cute! The other ladies will be kicking themselves and saying 'oh my, these sheep are totally cute, I wish I had offered to help!'. :)

Chilly weather? Already? I'm baking over here in our 90 degree weather (I know, I know, 90 degrees isn't that bad, but it rarely gets that hot here so I'm not used to it...ok?!)

When do your kids start school? I half expected 'school shopping' to be on the list of things to do for this week. My big 1st grader starts school tomorrow!!! Can't wait!

I hope that they are jealous. I say that because I am a bit OCD and I despise lack of follow through. I hope that made sense.

Your sheep are soo cute.

Cute sheep!!

I can't imagine that it is cold anywhere. I'm ready for Canada to blow some cold down to the Somewhat South.

You are one busy lady.

I love that- Oh so cute.

*smile* I think that is just neat.

I am someone who notices details, and I would appreciate the centerpieces.

Very neat!

SOS!!! Yea!!
People bailing bugs me, too. But, when people drop the ball I try to not feel obliged to pick up their slack, you know? But it's hard. I think that when women think "Oh, well someone else will get it done if I back out at the last minute" simply because the fixers always do step in to fix.

You have been so busy! I hope the Enrichment Night was a success. Your decorations turned out cute, but I'm not sure if I would have gone to the effort. I'm a slacker, though. ;o)

Hopefully you get a committee soon! It's so hard when you feel overwhelmed in a calling.

(((hugs!)))

What a busy girl you are!

I could never have empty table at Enrichment Night. The sheep turned out darling!

I love sheep!

I'm going through a de-clutter phase of my life, and I love the way anything empty looks(think IKEA). Maybe your co-chair is going through that too and sub-consciously put off table decorating?

Amanda - I have made those sheep before! With my kids once for Christmas decorations. Is it from family fun magazine?

I am totally amazed at how the activities commitee here pitches in and helps with ALL activities - including enrichment meetings and even the youth's standards night this week. Maybe that's a place you could go to for more support.

How did your VT conference go?

I hope everything turned out. Those are cute sheep. I'm a table decorator. If there's nothing on there, but a branch, or ribbon, or something on it! I'm crazy like that.
