Looks aren't everything

Remember my fancy dancy brand spankin new dishwasher that I was bragging about a few months ago. Well it turns out that I was distracted by it's good looks and should have done a little more comparison shopping. What can I say? I was desperate for a new dishwasher, the salesman talked fancy to me and the dishwasher was so shiny! Lesson learned, looks aren't everything.

I am one of those people that has to wash their dishes before washing them. This means that I have to completely rinse my dishes leaving no residue or particles of food that can be seen with the naked eye before I put them into the dishwasher. I can't, and believe me I've tried, put dirty dishes in my dishwasher. Well that sounds silly, of course they are dirty, I just can't put dishes that have food still on them in the dishwasher. So it would seem unnecessary to get the dishwasher with the bigger motor and the smaller capcity because it cleans stuck on food better. Now I am hand washing more dishes because I can't fit all of my dishes in the dishwasher.

I've never owned anything stainless steel before. When we bought our house and were in the market for a new fridge the salesman tried to talk me into a stainless steel fridge. I wasn't interested. For one thing they were more expensive, for another thing I wanted white. After some time to think about it and to see other's stainless steel fridge's I decided that I liked the look of stainless steel. So when I saw the stainless steel dishwasher and it was in our price range (more than likely because it is too small for a family of 6) I was hooked. I batted my eyelashes at my husband (it was a little more expensive than it's non-stainless steel version) and he bought me the pretty dishwasher. Don't get me wrong, I still do like the way it looks and it is pretty easy to clean. But take a look at this....
Yes, those are feet prints. Not sure exactly how they got there.

Looks like somebody was having a little too much fun in the kitchen.
Sorry about the dishwasher, that's a bummer.
I am glad you wrote this, because it makes me think. DH is real good at researching before buying. Lesson learned.

I'm all about the looks of the appliances and love stainless steel... even with little kids! :) I buy stainless steel wipes and just wipe them down all the time... they are quick and easy!!

Hmm. I have black appliances and have that same problem. Only I'm pretty sure all the foot plrints are mine. don't ask

Maybe you'll have to read Payney's book to overcome the compulsion to shine up that stainless :) I think the footsie prints are too cute! But then again, they're not in my house, so I understand. ;)
Maybe one of you little ones was doing what mine does--she lies on the floor and swishes/slides around the floor when she is bored/hungry while I'm making dinner. One of these days I'm going to step on her square in the gut by complete accident!

LOL at the footprints!

I always have rinse my dishes well too because almost all of our dishwashers in the past don't clean well so I feel your pain!

I used to clean a stainless steel elevator every morning in a department store as a teenager. Hundreds of hand prints. After that I vowed that I'd never get anything stainless steel once I grew up. What a pain! Although, I've heard there is a new kind of stainless steel out that doesn't leave smudges or streaks. Hmm....

LOL at "talked fancy to me" - you remind me of Ado Annie. "Oh Will! Don't start talkin' purty!"

Well, here's hoping you can make peace with it. That darn salesman.

Mine would totally look the same.

I was sooooo excited for our stainless steel kitchen...until we actually got it. Now it is a constant battle to keep it looking nice. It is not something I would recommend to anyone with young kids.

Oh, and our dishwasher SUCKS. I hate having to rinse everything before I load it. Doesn't that defeat the purpose?

Laughing about the footprints... :)

Stainless Steal is really hard to keep looking nice. I agree.

Sorry about having to hand wash dishes. I have a smaller dishwasher here than I had in SD and I find that I sometimes have to run 2 or more loads a day. CRAZY!

I can't help but think of all the ways footprints could appear in that spot. Kids are truly interesting creatures!

Speaking of Kids, you sure have some beauties!
