Memorial Day Weekend in pictures

We started the weekend by heading to Hot Springs, South Dakota for a visit to the Mammoth Site on Saturday. This was really fascinating to see the remains of so many Mammoth's who had gotten stuck in a sink hole and forever left their mark on the earth. I learned that not all Mammoth's were woolly. In fact the majority of the mammoth's found at this site are Colombian Mammoth's who more closely resemble a ginormous version of the African elephant.
(The kids standing in front of a life sized picture of a Colombian Mammoth)
Also found at this excavation site are several other animals including (but not limited to) birds, fish, a camel, and the North American short faced bear. This bear would have been a scary site to come across. Standing near 12 feet on its hind legs.

Saturday afternoon we came home and played in the backyard. Scott got out the girl's 4-wheeler and they took turns driving it around. Nobody seems to understand that Mom is trying to save the grass and not kill it. In the name of fun I do my best to ignore this and enjoy watching my little girls.
We had fun playing around on the play set too. Gotta love the toothless grins!
Jordan, Kimberly and Kaylynn monkeying around.
Megan and Mom, Jordan sneaks in the picture.Yesterday morning Jordan and Scott left for a fun filled day complete with lots of dirt and plenty of gas. They took Scott's 4-wheeler and Jordan's dirt bike and went riding with Scott's brother Roy and his boys. I have taken it upon myself to be the official lawnmower of the family and the lawn needed mowing again, so that was my job Monday. Unfortunately I managed to get oil leaking into the air filter when I turned it over to lube the mower blade. Fortunately Roy got a flat tire on his dirt bike and on his way back into town he resuscitated my clogged air filter (using a scotch brite as an air filter of all things) and I got the lawn mowed after all.

The day was warm and sticky and after watering some plants and 'accidentally' getting the girls wet they asked if they could play in the sprinkler.

While they played in the sprinkler I donned my swimming suit as well and did my best to turn as red as a lobster while reading The Princess Academy on the deck. I succeeded, my whole back side is red and slightly painful to the touch. I did finish the book, which is a great book by the way. All in all it was a great weekend. The kids are done with school this Friday and we are looking forward to many more fun filled days of summer. Maybe we'll even make it camping this year.

P.S. I got your card in the mail today. Thanks! You are so sweet to think of me! :)

I've read The Goose Girl, but not Princess Academy. I'll put it on my list!

Sounds like a great weekend. Good luck saving the grass. How fun that your DH and Jordan like to go riding together. Fun stuff. I liked your pictures! You had more sun up there than we had in TX this weekend. ;o)

nikko: I'll have to check out the Goose Girl. I loved the Princess Academy.
The rain came last night. I totally forgot to add that we put in our garden yesterday. Luckily the rains we got last night didn't wash anything away!

pj: Thank you! It was a fun day!

wendy: How funny that we read the same book the same weekend. Hmmmm...I picked it up at the kids book fair at school last week. I think we will have to do it as a book club book sometime!

tori: Yes it was! :)

Fun! That mammoth site sounds really cool. We were just saying that our kids need a yard so they can experience running through the sprinklers!
