Thursday 13 - Why I like living in South Dakota

I know I am a little late in the day, but hey, it is still Thursday (at least where I am at).

Next week mark's 5 years since we moved to South Dakota. In honor of this momentous occasion I would like to share 13 reasons why I like living in South Dakota.

1 - Beautiful clear blue skies. I don't miss the inversion SLC gets.

2 - The traffic.

3 - I like that we have our own little piece of country living at a much more affordable price than you could find in other places.

4 - I have enjoyed living closer to Scott's brother Roy and his family.

5 - The wonderful friends we have made here.

6 - We appreciate family more because we don't see them as often.

7 - Growing closer to Scott as we have been farther away from most of our family members and had to rely on eachother more.

8 - Mount Rushmore

9 - No income taxes.

10 - The black hills. They help to make up for the loss of the beautiful majestic mountains of Utah. Oh, how I miss those mountains.

11 - Voting is not boring in South Dakota. Next week there will be 11 initiatives/ammendments on our ballot. Sure we have a governor's race and don't forget about the public utilities commisioner, but nothing beats voting on things like vide0 l0ttery, medical mariju8na, and ab0rti0n, to name a few.

12 - Watching the snow fall horizontally instead of vertically because of the wind. I never knew this to be possible until seeing it with my own eyes.

13 - Being able to gain 15 pounds and shrug it off as the obligatory 15 pounds that everyone gains when they move to South Dakota to help them stay warm during the winter.

There is much I miss about Utah, but I have enjoyed our time here in South Dakota very much. It has been a time of growth and great blessings.

You're making me want to leave the cozy Wasatch Front and move there! The photo of the sky is beautiful.

It is pretty, and I love the abortion (or lack thereof) situation. Love, love, love it. I've always wanted to go to Mt. Rushmore, and visit De Smet (and go to Laura's house). Or is that ND?

And now that I've read about the blue sky, the song "Dakota" from "One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band" is going through my head. Have you seen it?

"The Black Hills, the blue sky of the shining west... Dakota, Dakota, by the heavens blessed!"

Kinda cool, huh? LOL have you seen that movie?

Ah, that post makes me miss the west...and I've never even been to SD (sorry wendy) Now that my husband and I have lived on both sides of the country and in Utah too, we have found we can live just about anywhere and be happy. I'm glad you are having a great time there!

P.S. I'm jealous of your big yard!

Love those 15 pounds of warmth! And I love that it can be all warm and nice one day and then -5 and fa-reeeeezing the next day.

I really love South Dakota. Hope we make it back here.

Millie, De Smet is in South Dakota. I should know, hehehe.

Amanda, the pictures of the sky are beautiful! I'll bet you can see so many stars at night. That is, when it's not snowing horizontally! :D

Becca, I forget how beautiful our skies are until I go back to Utah, especially in the winter.

Millie, I haven't seen or even heard that one. Sounds like I need to though!

Mary, you'll have to come visit when Wendy comes back.

Wendy, yes fa-reeeezing is exactly right. You will be coming back, right?

Suzanne, yes, the stars are amazing.

What a lovely way to count your blessings! And it sure is true that absence makes the heart grow fonder. I miss my home town like crazy...right up until I visit and then I want to go "home"! ~lol~

Anyways, I've never been to SD, i so want to go to Mount Rushmore.
Horizontal snow falling would be so cool to watch, but it's got to be freezing!, and that's why you need all the chocolate :D
