book club

Today was our book club meeting. Our first one in a couple of months. I must admit I was a little apprehensive about it. We have been having book club at my house for nearly 2 years now and the last little while our numbers have dwindled and I was about to throw in the towel. Today was wonderful though.

There were 4 other ladies, besides myself. I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but through most of the summer it was usually me and someone else, never the same someone else either. We talked about changing the time when we meet and even, gasp, having it at someone else's house besides mine. Not that I don't mind having an excuse to clean my house at least once a month. I was just feeling a little unsupported. But they came through for me today. Yeah!!!

Our book club is not giving up the ghost. In fact we picked books for the next two months, and guess what??? I actually get to GO to book club instead of having book club come to me. Next month we are reading "Persuasion" by Jane Austen and we are meeting at Wendy's house. I am so excited!! Thanks Wendy for offering and lending your support, even if you are abandoning me and leaving for Hawaii. Have I mentioned yet how much I am going to miss you??

For December we are going to read "Little Women" and we will be meeting at Kendra's house, who is by the way, my best friend. She really is a great friend and I am hoping to talk her into starting her own blog. We won't even talk about how I will need serious psycho therapy when her family moves. It is no fun living in a military ward when you are not military and everyone eventually moves on and leaves you behind.

So all in all it was a great book club day, and I am glad that I didn't give up on it.

Seriously. This is the 3rd time I have tried to leave a comment. If this doesn't work, that's it, I quit.

I had a muy fun time at the book club yesterday. You are so fun. It's too bad I didn't make friends with you sooner...

I am excited about hosting Persuasion over here. I think I might make hannah read the book, so if no one comes I will still have someone to discuss it with.

Cool! don't tell anyone, but I'd go to your book club, not the one they starting here (ward), you are much more fun.
Maybe I'll read Persuasion and pretend I'm there. Or something.

I hate to see all the people I like leave. A few of my friends have moved, and it was been hard :(
So I totally hear you.

I miss having a book club. Maybe I'll be brave and try to start one here. The ward one seemed to fizzle after 2 months, but I had just had a baby so didn't participate. I love your book selections!

Persuasion is a luverly book - it's one of my favourite of Austen's. Your Book Club has great taste! I've thought about starting one here, but I'm scared about no one turning up. Maybe I can borrow some of your courage?

Persuasion, you say... I will check it out at the library and see if I like it enough to buy it.

That's funny that NCS isn't into the book club thing - I'm not either - so I'm glad neither of us are going to try to drag the other one. ;) But if YOU were doing it, then by all means.

Little Women is one of my all-time faves. What a beautiful book, and I'm so grateful the Alcott family was so poor that Louisa had to start writing books. What if she hadn't?
