Another year older....

As some of you know last week was my birthday. I am officially halfway to 70. I am sensing a pattern. When I turned 30 it was not a pleasant day. I chalked it up to hormones as I was 9 months pregnant with Megan at the time. Turning 35 was not so much fun and I have no raging hormones to blame it on this time. Of course I probably didn't have the best attitude either. My poor husband got the brunt of my emotional roller coaster that day. I admit that I was feeling a little let down and did get a wee bit upset about the fact that I always have to make my own birthday cake, but really in the scheme of things that really doesn't matter.

Luckily I have a great friend that took pity on me. Kendra made me my very own birthday cake!
The bird on the cake is representive of the blue bird of happiness that I mentioned a couple of posts ago. Kendra and Nic had us over Saturday night for birthday cake and to play games with our other friends Mary and James. It was a lot of fun. I am so grateful for great friends!

Scott and I went on a date Friday night to celebrate my birthday. He took me to a great Italian restaurant here in town. Another of my friends babysat for us so that we could go out and enjoy some time together. Thanks Jin!

Anyway, enough of my little pity party. Here is what else we have been up to...
Last week Jordan had the opporunity to attend Starbase. He spent the week learning more about science and math and how they apply to real life situations and jobs. He also was able to make and launch a rocket, as well as fly a flight simulater airplane. On Friday afternoon they had their graduation ceremony.
Today Kaylynn is home sick from school and we have been enjoying a lazy day together. Right now she and Megan are watching Enchanted (one of my all time favorite movies!) so I think I will go and enjoy some snuggle time.

My birthday is during strawberry season, and strawberry shortcake is my traditional birthday cake. That way I don't have to do the work myself. We just buy the cake (angel food or pound) the strawberries and some whipped cream.
That said, I think that most birthdays that fall after about the age of 12 are somewhat of a letdown. I hate my birthday. I don't mind the cake, but I hate that expectation of it being special when it is just another day.
