Well enough chicken talk....
Since we are officially in summer now I thought I would share a few of my favorite things about summer, in no particular order.
1. fresh veggies from our garden, yummmmmm
2. swimming
3. grilling, especially with the fresh veggies from the garden
4. spending more time with my kids
5. camping - though we haven't been big campers with our kids in the past, I am hoping to start doing it more!
6. fishing - ditto to above statement
7. summer haircuts - Yay, no more tangly little girl hair!
8. rumbling thunderstorms and rain - we have had an abundance of rain this spring; it seems mother nature is trying to make up for 7 years of drought in one spring.
9. sleeping in
10. visiting family and friends in Utah - I'll be in Utah next month if anyone is interested in getting together. :)
11. Yummy fresh fruit - watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, peaches.....
12. fun day trips - this summer I plan on taking the kids here as well as our usual trips to Reptile Gardens and other fun spots around the Black hills.
There are also a few things I don't particularly care for about summer:
1. Saying goodbye to good friends. We live near an air force base and have many friends from church in the military. Summer is traditionally the time when families move on to new assignments in the military.
2. Hot summer days and nights - luckily we haven't had the heat yet!
3. sunburns
4. long days with bickering kids
5. cooking dinner when it is really hot - anyone have any great ideas for cool summer meals?
6. It goes by too fast!
What are your favorite or least favorite things about summer?
In other news, in 10 days it will be my 2 year blogiversary. In celebration I thought I would highlight some of my favorite blog posts over the last 2 years. Stay tuned....

18 people have something to say:
I'll be in Utah next month! I hope it's at the same time as you!
I love your list of summer.... so fun and so true!
I have a few fun and easy recipes for summer-- we are on our 10th day in a row of 110+ degree weather and I find them most pleasant to make and serve and eat during summer! I'll post them on the recipe blog!
What a wonderful summer list! I could have copied it exactly!
Some more things I love about summer:
Going to the drive-in theater
Family walks in the evening once it has cooled down.
The smell of sunscreen.
The sweet smell of grass as it warms in the sun and the smell of the grass when the lawn is being mowed!
Last week I didn't want to have hot dinners either! I made a big chef salad one night with cut up turkey and ham lunchmeat. I also grilled a lot so we wouldn't have to heat up the house!
I can't wait to read your blogiversary post! :)
I have a yummy chicken asian salad dish that I am making today and will post this week. Amanda is sick of it since this is the 3rd time in 2 weeks I've made it. Oh well!!!
I love a lot of those summer things, too, only I am not a fan of the thunderstorms. At all. And it's been 107 here. I'm ready for a cool down! ;)
Yay summer!!
Love your list.
If we end up going to Utah (now that Allan doesn't have a job) I'll let you know.
I think fun day trips are so great. (I love the Black hills--I think Mt. Rushmore is so fascinating ; I love all the fresh fruit in the summer. I don't like rumbling thunderstorms.
I love to make salads in the summer.
I have mixed feelings about summer... It just lasts too darn long (for my liking) here in TX.
Glad you are enjoying yours!
GREAT LIST!
I agree with with you on all of it.
Summer is the best time of the year.
I love that I don't notice when it's 3:00pm, because I am not on the schools schedule!
How about Egg salad sandwiches? I made them last night for dinner, and they were a hit.
great list amanda. sorry to see people you love leave though. but glad you got to experience them. each special contact changes us in a way.
happy almost 2yrs. cool. you were one of the first bloggers to cross my path when i started the grateful bloggy a little over a year ago. you rock sweetie, kathleen
I could ditto the summer lists. I love summer and being home with my kids. Here on hot days we do lots of salads for dinner and grilling, like you mentioned!
Oh goodie..amanda..when you go see Sue you will be in the town of my high schooling. You are in for a big treat! NOT! But it is cool that you will see Sue.
I love summer! I love lazy mornings and evening bbq's. I don't like mosquitoes.
This summer I hate that Nathan is missing most of it, but I love that he'll be home before too long!
I'm sad that so many of our friends are outta there. That's not fun!
Oh and I forgot popsicles and slurpees! Summer just wouldn't be the same without them! :)
chel: I will be leaving for Utah on July 7th. I am not certain how long I will be there. I would love some great summer recipes! THanks! :)
Suzanne: We also eat lots of salads, I just worry that they aren't filling enough. Love your additions to summer loves! :)
lisa: That salad sounds yummy!! Sorry about the hot weather! We have had an unusually cool summer so far. Today is our hottest day yet at only 86.
yvonne: I would love meeting you!!! Sorry again about Allan's job. :( We haven't been to Mt. Rushmore for awhile, maybe this summer would be a good time to go again.
nikko: I think if I lived in Texas I would feel the same way about summer. Our winters here are just so long and so cold that I would really like summer to stay a little longer.
pj: Egg salad sandwiches, that's a great idea! :)
kathleen: It is so hard to say goodbye. Some of my most favorite people I have met are in the military and they have to move on. I am grateful to have met them thoguh!
shawna: Salads are great in the summer, especially once we get veggies from the garden! :)
boedee: Speaking of favorite people who have moved away! :( I am really excited to see Sue, especially now that I know that is where you went to high school. I'll make sure to drive by and wave for you! :)
wendy: Yet another favorite friend that left us for paradise....
I did forget mosquitos! Yuck!!! They are especially bad this year! Sorry about Nathan missing out on summer with you. :(
suzanne: Yes! My kids love popsicles!
Oh, this list is great!
I would have to add: baseball, hiking, fireworks and the smell of fresh cut grass.
We like to cook on the grill too... tin-foil dinners on the grill are an easy favorite of ours.
summer is my favorite season! I love sleeping in, BBQ, swimming with friends.
I don't love hot car seats and steering wheels or bored kiddos.
I love your list, and your chickees!
Holy cow, you get so many comments that they are longer than your blog itself! You must have a lot of fans!
It will be fun to see you in a few weeks!
I bought a watermelon yesterday.
It made me :D
Our grill had an ouchie, so we can't use it, bummer. You can't have a summer without a grill IMO.
Great lists!
I'd love to see you when you're here. Email me!

I love summer! Summer usually means some kind of vacation, and I am always up for a vacation! I also love the grilling season and get togethers with friends.
I'm with you on the down side of summer with having to say good bye to friends. I also hate misquitos!
Thankfully, this summer we have said hello to a lot of old friends like you guys!
