For the birds

Let's say you are in the basement sitting at the computer trying to catch up on blog reading and you hear a mysterious noise coming from your fireplace. Having heard this sound before you are pretty certain that an unfortunate bird has somehow found it's way down the chimney and into your fireplace. What do you do?

Well, first you run upstairs and get your camera so you can blog about it later. When I first noticed him, he was perched right inside the fireplace door and you could see him through the glass. Of course when I came back with the camera he was hiding among the logs and paper. I kept waiting for him to find his way out and fly at me like something you would see in a movie. A scary bird movie.

Lucky for mister bird we found him before he succomed to the dirty fireplace he found himself in. Actually according to my daughter it was probably a girl bird, not a mister bird. I thought, no, only a male creature could find himself in this kind of predicament. He was probably trying to show off for the lady birds.

Seeing as how I am so brave, and things like this never happen when my hubby is around to take care of them, I had to remove most of the logs and paper from the fireplace before the bird made his escape. He came flying out and I of course screamed. He then did what any smart bird would do. He flew out an open window I had ready for him.

The last unfortunate bird that found itself in our fireplace wasn't so smart. He probably died later either of a heart attack because my son and I had to literally chase him out the open window, or he died from inhaling all the ashes that he stirred up after he found himself trapped in a fireplace. He obviously did not live long enough to warn other birds to stay away from our bird eating chimney.

I'm glad you could take care of it and the bird made it out o.k. I'm really glad to see new posts by you! :)

I second Suzanne's LOL :D
So blogworthy and blogarrific. I'd have totally screamed at the possibility of a bird flying around inside my house. let alone having it happen for real.

Once there was a weird scratchy noise outside my kitchen, it really scared me, so I called my husband at work and whispering I said: "there's a weird noise outside the kitchen, like scratching...I think it's a beaver". I don’t think it was polite of him to laugh in my hour of need.
Turns out it was just a branch scratching the kitchen window. But I’m keeping an eye on any wild beavers, just in case.

What excitement! I would have screamed too. I think you were so smart to have a window open and ready. I would not have thought of that, and the poor bird would be stuck flying around my house and I would be stuck cleaning up bird droppings!

NCS: LOL about the wild beaver scratching at your window. hahahaha! That would be frightening!

utmommy: I thought it was funny too, especially once it was gone. Bye bye birdie!

wendy: I do have an occasional smart thought every once in awhile.
