Memory Monday - The day barbie got run over

The other day we were driving in the car and the kids started horsing around and being crazy. I casually warned them to calm down before someone got hurt or mad and we had a repeat of the Barbie incident. They all started to laugh, but it worked, they calmed down. I am glad that they can all laugh at it now! Maybe I haven't scarred them for life.

One day while driving to school to pick up Jordan from Kindergarten the twins were fighting in the seat behind me. I tried to reason, beg, plead with them to stop. One thing I dislike most is children fighting in the car. You can't send them to time out, you can't separate them, you really can't do a whole lot. Anyway, I finally got through to Kim, but Kaylynn was still fighting mad. This time she directed her anger towards me. She happened to have a Barbie with her and began hitting me on the head with it. While I am driving mind you. By this point I was mad. So out of desperation I grabbed Barbie from my daughter, rolled down the window and chucked her out the window. As you can imagine, this only made my daughter scream more loudly and with greater force at me for being the worst mommy in the universe. I assured her that upon picking Jordan up from school we would drive back and pick up Barbie, but she would be mine for the remainder of the day because you don't hit mommy in the head! She cried the rest of they way, which was only about a mile.

We drove back, after collecting Jordan from school, and as we got closer to where Barbie was so forcefully flung from my window, we found her. Only she was now in several little pieces. Apparently someone had run her over while she lay helplessly in the middle of the road. Um, sorry Kaylynn I didn't mean for her to get run over, really, I was just trying to make a point that you need to listen to mommy. Point taken, but not without a tounge lashing for mommy. I relayed the incident to my friend Kendra who while trying not to laugh, assured me that I was not a bad mommy. A few days later she called me to tell me she found a Barbie in the middle of the road and thought of me. How nice! I am not the only crazy mom that flings innocent Barbie's out car windows to teach their children a lesson.

Ow! I'm in pain from laughing! I don't like Barbie (don't tell anyone!) so this was great fun for me to read!
Did you feel guilty enough to buy a new Barbie!?

andrea: Glad that I could give you an idea! Just throw it closer to the curb to avoid it being run over.

dawynel: No, I thought about buying her another one, but I resisted.

I like it! It's dramatic, unexpected, and most definitely gets the point across. Plus, they sure remembered it. I vote that this is a new and valid method of discipline!

You are a barbie chucking inspiration to us all!

I love how becca described it "dramatic, unexpected". You're kids will retell the story for years and will take you seriously the next time you tell them not to fight in the car.

LOL!!! I shouldn't be laughing, but I am! That's definitely a lesson your kids will remember for a long time! (And no, I don't think you're a bad mommy!) :)
